Allie's Donuts: Discover Legendary Flavors and Friendly Service in North Kingstown

I visited the shop two days before Christmas and as always, it is a very popular donut shop. The store has a day old selection for a discounted price but we missed it as I heard those go away very quickly. I got a half dozen box and they were all so good. My favorite however was the maple donut as I prefer fluffier donuts. Even though there was a line, service was very quick and all the workers were nice. The store is a very casual store. CASH only store!

Best donuts in town. Only donuts that can still tastes fresh after being a day old. A Rhode Island bucket list is that you must try a donut cake, which can be customized.

ORIGIN: Frederick "Allie" Briggs opened the donut shop in 1968. At the time he was a dairy farmer who had been supplementing income to support his wife and seven children by working additional hours in a local donut shop. He envisioned a better way to make donuts, something his employer was not willing to support. His effort became a very successful family enterprise, and Allie's Donuts is currently owned by his eldest daughter, Anne, and her husband, Bud Drescher. LOCATION: The donut shop remains on the original road, a main thoroughfare (route 2) in North Kingston with ample parking. The shop's parking lot is often full, as customers quickly stop to pick up Allie's legendary donuts, or unique custom donut-based cakes. EXPERIENCE: While you you can always expect to buy donuts until the shop closes at 2 PM, part of the surprise and draw to quickly get in line is the ever-changing availability of different donut flavors and styles. The hand-cut raised donuts may be filled and covered with glaze, frosting, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar, but cake-like donuts are offered as well. Some favorites of mine include maple glazed raised and the raspberry-filled granulated sugar covered donut. Coffee (iced and hot) and hot chocolate are available for those on the go, or who can't wait to enjoy the donuts at their intended destination! TIPS: The shop has two lines, one for custom donut cake pick up, the other for donuts and coffee. The interior is narrow and "no frills", designed for baking and pick up and go orders. The shop is cash only and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, otherwise open 6 AM to 2 PM. Shop employees will patiently identify donut types, but it is helpful to review the list of all possible types in advance as shelves are not typically labeled. This list (attached) is located near cash register. The shop might be considered a reasonable and worthy short side excursion for Foodie I-95 travelers.

These are the the best donuts in Rhode Island!! The sprinkle donuts are absolutely iconic. They are so light and fluffy. The frosting stops just short of being tooth-achingly sweet, and contrasts well with the raised donut that is not particularly sweet at all. I also love the maple frosted, vanilla frosted, and strawberry frosted. They have seasonal specials too. I will say that I don't love the old fashioned donuts and crullers as much as the classic raised donuts; I wouldn't waste the space. It's $2 / donut or $9 for a half dozen, such a fair price for these amazing fresh donuts! The service is friendly and fast. You have to stop by if you are in North Kingstown!

I've been to all the donut shops in RI and nobody can still touch Allie's! Another awesome cheat meal! Grabbed a 1/2 dozen donuts plus a maple frosted coffee roll, and luckily Allie's is still affordable as all this was $12. I always get their raspberry raised stick which I'm obsessed with. Their coffee roll was amazing and the other donuts were perfect. Keep killin it Allie's!

Allie's Donuts has been around since 1968; the day that Frederick 'Allie' Briggs decided to open up shop on a busy stretch of Rt.2 highway. Since that day, 'Allie's' has continued to produce quality doughnuts, cinnamon buns, and other pastry desserts that many Rhode Islanders have grown to love. This weekend, we had a get together and my step daughter brought a dozen doughnuts ($18). If you want to buy an individual piece is $2. The variety of the doughnuts is pretty good and all of them were fluffy, moist, light and delicious.... I am usually not a frosting kind of person and I still enjoyed the frosting on these doughnuts. It's a Rhode Island institution, check them out... Be ready to stand in line for a while during peak hours.....it gets crowded....
